In line with its continued support and promotion of various sporting activities in the State of Qatar, Masraf Al Rayan [MAR] – one of the leading Islamic banks in Qatar – has announced the formation of a special committee spearheaded by Mr Adel Mustafawi, Group CEO of MAR.

The National Sports Day is marked in Qatar in response to Emiri Decree to celebrate the day on the second Tuesday of February every year.

The Committee is mandated to prepare a program to celebrate the special national occasion; and reinforce the effective role played by sports in the community and creating a harmonious social fabric. The committee will also develop plans and proposals to mark the Sports Day, involving the bank’s employees and members from all segments of the society.

Commenting on the committee, Mr Adel Mustafawi, Group CEO of MAR, said: “The formation of the MAR Special Committee to mark the National Sports Day reaffirms our interest to be a part in this celebration; and reflects our commitment to participate in various national events, in general and sporting activities, in particular. This step further reinforces our commitment to the community, reflected in our various sponsorship to sporting events and initiatives to boost sports excellence in Qatar.”

It is worth mentioning that Masraf Al Rayan has always supported sporting events on a continuous basis, which began with the sponsorship of the Qatar Stars League, the premier professional football league in the country, three years ago. MAR also sponsored Lekhwiya Sports Club, the defending champions of Qatar Stars League. The bank recently announced its sponsorship of Al Jaish Sports Club, besides being the main sponsors of the Qatar Sailing and Rowing Federation championships.

MAR was also the annual sponsor of the 10th Qatar National Day Cricket Tournament, organized by the Lagaan Cricket Club on the occasion of Qatar National Day, besides supporting various events and sports activities in the State of Qatar.
