Dr Hussain Ali Al Abdulla
Dr Hussain has over twenty years of experience investing in GCC and global markets. He holds the office of Executive Director of the Qatar Investment Authority overseeing the management and evaluation of the investment fund of the government of Qatar in international and local markets. Dr Hussain is Chairman of Masraf Al Rayan and Al Rayan Investment and Vice-Chairman of Qatar Financial Centre Authority. He has held senior positions in the Qatar Ministry of Finance, Supreme Council for Planning and HH the Emir’s Office. Dr Hussain holds a PhD in Economics.

Adel Mustafawi
Adel is Executive Director and Board Member of Al Rayan Investment. He has more than nineteen years experience in Treasury and capital markets. Prior to MAR, Adel spent ten years at Qatar National Bank where he was Head of Dealing and Treasury and 5 years at the Government of Qatar Investment Office. He is a graduate of the University of Arizona, USA, majoring in Finance.

Abdulaziz Al Muftah
Abdulaziz is the Executive Director of Al Rayan Investment. In addition to more than 3 years investment banking experience at senior managerial level, he has over twenty years experience in the region in telecom, IT and oil & gas. Abdulaziz has managed a number of multi-discipline engineering projects for various asset-owners and end-users. He holds a Masters of Science in Technology.

Akber Khan
Akber is Director of Asset Management with more than thirteen years experience in the investment industry. Prior to Al Rayan, Akber spent over eleven years at Deutsche Bank in London initially trading UK equities. He held senior research positions in European and Emerging Markets and latterly was Chief Equity Strategist for Central & Eastern Europe, Middle East & Africa. Akber graduated from University College London, UK in Economics & History. He is regularly featured in financial media including the Financial Times, CNBC and Bloomberg TV.

Fazlur Rahman Bin Kamsani
Fazlur is Director Real Estate & Financial Advisory. Prior to Al Rayan, Fazlur was an Executive Director at Chesterton International, a leading global real estate services group where he specialised on the Middle East region. Before that, Fazlur was with DTZ advising the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (MUIS) in rejuvenating its portfolio of ‘Waqf’ (endowment) assets. Fazlur started his career with Jurong Town Corporation under the Ministry of Trade and Industry, which spearheads the industrialisation initiatives in Singapore. Fazlur was educated in Raffles Institution and Raffles Junior College. He graduated in Estate Management with Honours from the National University of Singapore in 1993.

Maqsood A. Afaq
Maqsood is currently Director Real Estate & Financial Advisory. He has over ten years of corporate advisory, real estate finance and corporate strategy and planning experience. Maqsood comes to Al Rayan from Moody’s Investors Service in New York where he was a bond rating analyst monitoring Moody’s rated US Commercial Mortgage Backed Securities “CMBS” and Commercial Real Estate Collateralized Debt Obligations “CRE CDOs”. Maqsood started his investment banking career at Morgan Stanley, New York in corporate finance. His extensive experience includes advising clients on various corporate finance strategies including local and cross-border M&A, leveraged and management buy-outs, share repurchase programs, balance sheet restructuring among others. Maqsood has an MBA from MIT Sloan School of Management, a BA from Morehouse College and a Professional Certificate in Real Estate Finance from New York University.

Mohamad El Masri
Mohamad is the Senior Manager of Business Development & Institutional Sales at Al Rayan Investment (ARI). He has over 10 years experience in the investment industry specializing in Islamic Finance and a holder of the Islamic Finance Qualification from CISI, UK. He has experience in various sectors such as Asset Management, Real Estate, Capital Markets, Private Equity and Structured Finance. He joined ARI from Ajman Bank (UAE) where he had spent three years as Senior Vice President heading Investment Banking. Mohamad was part of the team that established Ajman Bank. Prior to that he was Head of Investment Funds for Qatar Islamic Bank (QIB) where he spent four years and helped managed over US$ 3 billion of investments across GCC, Europe, Asia and the UK. Mohamad was a member of the Steering Committee that established QIB’s subsidiaries in UK, Malaysia, Lebanon and Qatar. He started his career with BML Bank Lebanon as a senior credit analyst. He is an honors list graduate in Business Management from Beirut Arab University and holds qualifications of IFQ, PMQ, and CLBB.

Umar Farooq
Umar Farooq is the Head of Legal at Al Rayan Investment. Umar joined ARI from an international law firm where he advised clients on corporate joint ventures, conventional and Islamic finance, capital markets, intellectual property, litigation (defamation/libel) and commercial disputes. Umar has been based in Doha since 2008. Umar has also worked for a public interest group in Washington D.C., dealing with U.S. Congress and federal agencies. Before practicing law, Umar worked as a journalist with global news organizations such as CNN, the Associated Press (AP) and Reuters and as a public relations specialist with the international public relations firm Weber Shandwick Worldwide. Umar holds Islamic Finance Qualification from CISI, London and International Finance and Global Banking Certificate from the Levin Institute, New York. Umar is admitted to practice law in New York and received his J.D. (juris doctor) with honors from State University of New York at Buffalo. Umar also holds a B.A. with honors from Georgia State University.

Aneesh Mon
Aneesh is a member of Real Estate & Financial Advisory and has four years experience. He has worked to provide in-depth financial due-diligence for several M&A and private equity transactions. He was previously with Citibank, India as a Relationship Manager in Wealth Management. He has an MBA from Indian Institute of Planning and Management.

Samir Chaibi
Samir is an Analyst in the Real Estate and Financial Advisory team with 2 years experience. Prior to joining Al Rayan Investment, Samir worked as an Investment Banking Analyst at Lazard (France) and Citigroup (UK) involved in M&A, IPOs, Secondary offerings, asset monetization, private placements and corporate restructuring. Samir also worked for q.media Decaux in Qatar as a Corporate Finance and Business Development Analyst. Samir holds an MSc in Finance from Audencia School of Management (France).

Shabbir Kagalwala
Shabbir has four years industry experience and joined Al Rayan Investment from Vision Investment Services in Oman. At Vision he was the lead analyst on the flagship Emerging GCC Fund. Prior to this, Shabbir worked with research houses in India, focusing on the US, Europe and Middle-East equity markets. Shabbir was awarded a Post Graduate degree in Finance (MS Finance) from ICFAI University, Hyderabad, India.
